Russian private healthcare provider MD Medical Group announced the opening of its first lab for the collection of analyses on Friday.

The FTSE IOB-traded company said the lab would operate under the ‘MD LAB’ brand in the North-Eastern Administrative District of Moscow.

It said the new lab, located in the Lapino-2 hospital facility, had a total footprint of around 80 square metres, and was equipped with the equipment needed to provide patients with a range of analysis services.

It said it expected that, in the future, several similar labs would be opened in different districts of Moscow and the greater Moscow region.

As a result, the company would expand its presence in highly-populated areas with steady consumer demand.

“By opening our first stand-alone laboratory, the company begins to operate a new format of medical centres,” said chief executive officer Mark Kurtser.

“These mini-laboratories will provide a new type of service for our patients, facilitating access to the services of the ‘mother and child’ medical centres, and contributing to the expansion of the company's client base.”

Sergey Arabadzhyan, the firm’s medical director for innovative technologies, added that ‘MD LAB’ centres would increase patient loyalty, giving them the opportunity to “appreciate the benefits” of medical services provided by the ‘mother and child’ group of companies.

“The initial regions for the new format will be Moscow and the Moscow region, where transport accessibility plays a huge role.”

At 1333 GMT, shares in MD Medical Group were up 0.91% on the FTSE IOB index, at $11.10.
