Fried chicken behemoth KFC has taken the phrase ‘finger lickin’ good’ to another level by launching two edible nail polishes as part of a marketing campaign in Hong Kong.

Sourced from natural ingredients and available in two flavours – hot & spicy and original – the polish was created by advertising firm Ogilvy & Mather and food technicians at McCormick, which makes the spices for KFC’s secret-recipe chicken.

Hot & Spicy comes in bright orange while the original flavour is nude. The product goes on just like normal nail polish, with the added benefit of being lickable so fans can have the sweet taste of KFC quite literally at their fingertips.

"To use, consumers simply apply and dry like regular nail polish, and then lick—again and again and again," KFC said in a statement.

Fingers that smell and taste of fried chicken may not be everyone’s idea of a breakthrough, but fans in Hong Kong will get a chance to have their say on the flavours and once they’ve been tried and tested, KFC will decide which one goes into mass production.

"The recipe for our edible nail polish is unique and was specifically designed to hold the flavour, but to also dry with a glossy coat similar to normal nail polish," creative director John Koay told AdWeek.

"This campaign is designed to be intriguing and fun to increase excitement around the KFC brand in Hong Kong."
