Huawei's Mate 30 smartphone will not have access to Google's popular apps including Maps and YouTube.

After the US government confirmed a ban on sales to Chinese tech giant Huawei in May, Google had no choice but to block the license of its apps, meaning that the new phone will not have the apps pre-installed.

Analysts suggested Huawei would struggle to sell a phone without Google's apps and the Android operating system, especially in Europe. Consumers might find the phones unappealing if they cannot use some of the most popular features.

Googledid not say whether it had applied for permission to offer its apps to Huawei.

Huawei said in a statement: "Huawei will continue to use the Android OS and ecosystem if the US government allows us to do so. Otherwise, we will continue to develop our own operating system and ecosystem."

"Anyone who has already bought, or is about to buy a Huawei smartphone, can continue to access the world of apps as they have always done.

"All devices continue to be covered by our manufacturer's warranty and will receive full service support accordingly," the company said.

A temporary licence issued by the US government for Huawei earlier in the summer and renewed again during the previous week maintained the use of the apps on existing devices.

The Mate 30 will be the first major phone released by the company since the block was introduced.
