Following its acquisition of Boston Dynamics, Google has partnered with Ethicon, a medical device company in the Johnson & Johnson stable of holdings, to develop robots for medical purposes.

The strategic collaboration aims to offer surgeons and health care systems greater accuracy, cost efficiency and better outcomes for patients.

“The companies will bring together capabilities, intellectual property and expertise to create an innovative robotic-assisted surgical platform capable of integrating advanced technologies with the goal of improving health care delivery in the operating room”, both parties said on Friday.

“We aim to put the best science, technology and surgical know-how in the hands of medical teams around the world," said Gary Pruden, Worldwide Chairman of J&J's Global Surgery Group.

The transaction date is yet to be confirmed, but both companies pointed out that it will probably occur during the second quarter of 2015. Financial details of the agreement were not disclosed.
