Fedex requests EU approval for TNT bid

US delivery and logistics service company FedEx has asked the European Union (EU) competition regulators to approve its €4.4.bn offer for Dutch rival TNT.

Spokeswoman Nira Gale specified said the request was submitted by Fedex on Friday.

Both companies announced on 7 April they had reached an agreement that the US courier giant would buy the Dutch group in an all-cash €8 per share offer.

TNT had agreed a takeover by UPS in 2013, but was denied by the European Commission's competition authorities.
