The European Union agreed an advance purchase agreement with Sanofi and GlaxoSmithKline for the companies' potential Covid-19 vaccine.

According to a tweet from European Health Commissioner Stella Kyriakides, she would be hosting the signature of the contract.

It would be the second such agreement inked by the bloc.

In return for the right to the agreed amount of doses, the European Commission would provide financing upfront for a part of the costs incurred by vaccine producers.
