Apple’s iPad Pro could be worth at least $2.4bn (£1.59bn) to the company, according to RBC Capital Markets.

The device, which went on sale on 11 November, is the tech giant’s largest tablet yet with a 12.9 inch display and it set to compete with other tablet-cum-PC devices like the Microsoft Surface Pro.

RBC Capital Markets said it believed around three million units would be sold in the first three months.

With its conservative assumption that all those units were the low end 32GB version sold for just under $800 per unit, that would lead to a $2.4bn revenue opportunity and around $600m in operating profit.

It also believed that the additional revenue would represent roughly half of the company’s March quarter total iPad revenue.
