Airbus is set to complete a major order for 100 aircraft as AirAsia seek to bolster their fleet at the Farnborough International Airshow this week, according to Bloomberg sources.

The low-cost Asian airline is its biggest single-aisle aircraft customer, and the deal could come to fruition as early as tomorrow at the famous airshow.

The A321neo planes are listed at $125.7mn each, but it is quite common for deals like this to contain discounts.

The carrier is aiming to step up its routes to and from India, according to the reports. The group headed by CEO Tony Fernandes has 304 single-aisle planes and 76 twin-aisle jets from Airbus, as well as a significant number from rivals Boeing.

Budget airlines in Asia have been making sizeable orders for new aircraft after the growth of AirAsia in recent times, including big deals from Indian airline Indigo and PT Lion Mentari Airlines.

The Farnborough International Airshow begins this week, bringing together various air enthusiasts to enjoy displays by manufacturers, and providing the press and public an insight into the latest innovations.

Airbus climbed almost 1.55 euros, or 3.2%, to 50.58 euros in Paris. The stock has lost about 17% this year. AirAsia grew 1.9%in Kuala Lumpur trading. The shares have more than doubled this year.
