US President Donald Trump saw his Twitter account shut down temporarily after an employee at the tech firm engaged in a minor act of sabotage on Thursday.

Trump’s account was deactivated for all of 11 minutes, briefly silencing the President’s stream of consciousness via the microblogging site.

Twitter said it was investigating the incident and added it was taking action in order to avoid similar actions in the future.

"Through our investigation we have learned that this was done by a Twitter customer support employee who did this on the employee's last day. We are conducting a full internal review," the company said in a statement.

The respite was short-lived for the former reality television star’s 41.7m followers however, as he returned to resume his barrage of tweets accusing Hillary Clinton and others of "dishonesty".
