B.B. King, one of the most celebrated blues master of all times, died in his sleep late on Thursday in Las Vegas, his lawyer said.

The music industry legend had been suffering from ill health since last October, after he fainted during a concert and had to cancel his tour. He had also recently visited the hospital several times as a consequence owing to diabetes related complications.

Born in Mississippi, King started performing back in the 1940s, after working as a cotton picker in Lexington and Indianola.

Having recorded over 50 albums, King was renowned for hits “I’ve Got a Right To Love My Baby”, “Rock Me Baby”, “Three O’Clock Blues” or “My Lucille”, which was a tribute to his Gibson guitar.

Rolling Stone magazine placed him behind only Jimi Hendrix and Duane Allman in its list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time.
