Fake Chinese Goldman Sachs discovered

Whether it’s watches, designer gear or cars, China has a reputation for knockoffs, and US banking giant Goldman Sachs is the latest name to fall prey to the copycat culture.

A finance company in China has set up shop with the same name, but insisted that any similarity with the bank was unintentional.

Goldman Sachs (Shenzen) Financial Leasing Co, which is based in Shenzhen and has no links whatsoever with the New York-based bank, uses the same Chinese characters as the real Goldman Sachs, according to Bloomberg.

A receptionist at the Shenzhen company told the news agency that it was not affiliated with the US bank, adding that it was the first time anyone had inquired about the similarities, which came to light after a US casino workers union sent a letter to Chinese anti-corruption officials asking them to investigate the firm.
