Week ahead: US Q4 GDP and inflation data, global PMIs in focus
Investors' attention over the coming week was expected to be on a raft of economic releases in the US that were due to be published towards the end of the same.
Included among those were a preliminary reading for GDP prices during for the fourth quarter on Thursday, followed by the price deflators for personal consumption expenditures in December and final prints on the University of Michigan's inflation expectations gauges for January.
Those would be the final reports covering inflation in the US ahead of the Federal Reserve's next policy meeting on 31 January-1 February.
Across the Channel, Tuesday would see S&P Global release the preliminary results for its euro area manufacturing and services Purchasing Managers' Indices.
The survey results were expected to show that the latter returned marginally into expansionary territory in January.
Investors would also be keeping close tabs on a survey of German consumer confidence due out the same day.
The IFO Institute's closely followed business confidence survey, also covering the month of January, would follow on Wednesday and further improvement was also anticipated.
On home shores, S&P Global's factory and services PMIs would also be in focus on Tuesday.
In Japan, wholesale services price figures for Japan in December were due out on Thursday and core consumer price numbers for Tokyo in January on Friday.
Chinese markets were due to remain closed across the week in observance of the Lunar New Year holidays.
