Week ahead: Chinese data, UK GDP in focus

The market spotlight will shift towards China and the UK over the coming week.

Nevertheless, financial markets will be keeping a close eye on political developments in the US, where most media outlets now believe that the Democrats' Joe Biden will indeed become the 46th President.

On 7 November, China's customs administration will release figures on foreign trade for October.

They will be followed three days later, on Tuesday, by readings on consumer and factory-fate prices out of the Asian giant covering the month of October, alongside figures on money supply growth.

Farther afield, but still in Asia, on Wednesday, rate-setters in New Zealand will meet to decide on monetary policy.

On home shores, Thursday will bring with it a preliminary reading on third quarter gross domestic product, which is expected to have expanded at a pace of 15.5% following the 19.8% slump seen over the preceding three months.

Monthly unemployment data are also due out, on Tuesday.

In the States meanwhile, investors will be keeping close tabs on the news-flow around a potential post-election fiscal stimulus package.

Fed policy will also be in the spotlight, with no less than seven top official set to take to the podium over the course of the week, including the central bank's chairman, Jerome Powell, on Thursday.

Across the Channel, on Tuesday, the ZEW institute will publish its economic confidence index for November.
