Week ahead: Chinese data, BoE and ECB in focus
The US jobs report may now be out of the way but the economic agenda over the coming week is thick with scheduled releases of first-tier economic data, not to mention policy announcement by the Bank of England and European Central Bank.
In particular, investors will be carefully watching reports out of China, with figures on August consumer prices due out overnight on Monday, followed by a raft of activity indicators which are set to b published at the end of the week, on Friday.
Against that backdrop, on Thursday rate-setters at the Bank of England are set to announce their decision on interest rates and Bank's asset purchase facility. No change is expected on either front, but the Inflation Report and meeting minutes will, as always, be closely scrutinised, especially after Bank's decision to hike last month, which not all private sector economists supported.
The European Central Bank's Governing Council is also set to meet and decide on policy on Thursday.
Stateside meanwhile, the spotlight is expected to be on the August CPI figures which are due for release on Thursday, followed by reports on monthly retail sales, import prices, industrial production and consumer confidence the following day.
