Week ahead: China data, US and UK retail sales in focus

The market spotlight over the coming week will shift towards Asia where a raft of economic indicators are set for release in the People's Republic of China.

Forecasts are for the Asian giant's economy to continue outperforming that of the rest of the world over the remainder of 2020.

Data on monthly retail sales in the US meanwhile due out on Tuesday are also expected the economy's main motor, consumption, continue to hum along, although rising numbers of Covid-19 infections are a growing near-term risk.

Retail sales data in the UK on Friday are expected to draw a similar picture.

Also due out in the States, is the closely-followed regional factory sector survey from the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, on Thursday.

Investors will also be watching for signs of progress in the US presidential transition.
