Week ahead: China-US trade spat, US CPI in focus
The market spotlight over the coming week will likely continue to be on the ongoing trade spat between China and the US, in particular.
Chinese data will also be one of the main focal points over the course of the week, with readings on the country's foreign exchange reserves in July and consumer prices scheduled for release on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively.
Coincidentally, the Reserve Bank of Australia and Reserve Bank of New Zealand are both due to make policy announcements, on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Nevertheless, the most sensitive bit of data is likely to come out of the US, in the form of a reading on consumer prices for the month of July.
The consensus call is for a headline rate of gains of 3.0% year-on-year and a 'core' rate of 2.3%, with the latter unchanged from the previous month.
Lastly, back in the UK, Friday will bring with it a preliminary reading on second quarter gross domestic product, which is expected to reveal a dip in growth to a 0.2% pace quarter-on-quarter.
In parallel, ONS will release June readings on industrial and construction output and international trade.
