Week ahead: Global manufacturing, US jobs report in the spotlight
The focus over the coming week will be on global manufacturing and on monetary policy in the US.
First out of the gate will be a reading for the 'official' China Purchasing Managers' Index for manufacturing in June, which will be followed by the private sector compiled PMI from Caixin on Monday.
Comparable surveys for the UK's factory and services sector are due out on Monday and Wednesday, respectively.
Both in China and in Britain, investors are keen to better ascertain to what extent recent soft readings on the economy are transitory or not.
Indeed, a spate of weak prints out of China in May have already triggered a significant depreciation in the yuan.
Equivalent factory and services PMIs are also due out in the States, on Monday and Thursday.
To take note of, US markets will remain closed on Wednesday, in observance of the 4 July holiday.
Capping off the week and quite important as well, will be the June non-farm payrolls reports Stateside, with analysts keen to ascertain if the US jobs market is continuing to tighten further and at what speed.
Ahead of that, on Wednesday, the US central bank will publish the minutes of its last policy meeting.
Commenting on the importance of those, economists at Barclays Research said: "We look to the minutes of the June FOMC meeting to explain members' rationale for the decision to raise rates in June and signal further steepening in the appropriate policy path.
"We will pay particular attention to the discussion of risks to the outlook in light of Chairman Powell's expressed confidence in the outlook against the rising threat of protectionism. In addition, we will read with an eye toward when members think policy will be neutral and how convinced they are that policy needs to become modestly restrictive over time."
