Tuesday preview: HSBC, RBA meeting minutes in the spotlight

A relative absence of any significant economic releases on Tuesday means the market spotlight will be firmly on HSBC's full-year figures.

The Asia-focused lender is expected to post a big jump in profits when the company releases its latest full-year numbers, with BHP Billiton also on investors' minds ahead of its half-year results.

Having said that, with the wheels of the monetary policy cycle clearly in motion in many jurisdictions, the minutes of the Reserve Bank of Australia's last rate-setting meeting may draw a fair bit of attention.

Readings on euro area consumer confidence and the ZEW institute's widely-followed economic sentiment index for Germany are also scheduled to be published.
