Director dealings: Majestic CEO makes small splash with sale

Majestic Wine chief executive Rowan Gormley has sold £529,000 worth of shares in the retailer two years after his Naked Wines business was acquired and a few days after chairman stepped down.

In April, it was confirmed that the business had achieved all the conditions of the acquisition earn out, with founder Gormley and his fellow senior Naked colleagues having restrictions on when they could sell shares lifted.

Gormley sold 150,000 ordinary shares at an average price of 353p per share but this was said to be in order to cover tax liabilities, with Gormley still holding a hefty 6.15% of the issued shares.

Last week, alongside the company's final results, chairman Phil Wrigley told the board he will retire and step down from the board in August.

For the full year, underlying revenue rose 11.4% to £461.1m thanks to a tasty increase at Naked but profits were hurt by a failed marketing campaign.

Since results were released Majestic's share price has fallen from 380p to 321.25p, down 4.6% on Monday, but slightly ahead of the near-310p level when Naked was acquired.
