Director dealings: Diageo chairman ups stake

Diageo revealed on Monday that chairman Javier Ferrán had purchased 300,000 ordinary shares in the FTSE 100-listed drinks maker.

Ferrán, who took over as CEO back in January 2017, acquired the shares on Friday at an average price of 3,284.50p each, for a total value of £985,350.04.

Last Thursday, Diageo posted a rise in full-year profit thanks to growth across all regions and new product innovation.

In the year to the end of June, pre-tax profit increased to £4.2bn from £3.7bn the year before, with total reported net sales up 5.8% at £12.9bn. Meanwhile, operating profit was 9.5% higher at £4bn, driven by organic growth.

Basic earnings per share pushed up 7.4% to 130.7p and the final dividend was lifted 5%, taking the full-year dividend to 68.6p a share from 65.3p.

As of 1630 BST, Diageo shares had picked up 2.60% to 3,409.50p.
