Director dealings: Workspace quartet sell £1.6m of shares

Four Workspace directors and their spouses sold £1.57m worth of the served office group's stock, which is just off its highest level in nine and half years.

The FTSE 250 company said chief executive Jamie Hopkins and his wife; chief financial officer Graham Clemett and his spouse; development director Angus Boag and operations director Chris Pieroni sold the shares "generally to cover their investment and tax planning".

Clemett's wife sold a chunk for £327,408 and he sold £109,136-worth, while his boss sold a total of £436,544.

Boag sold the most, offloading 55,697 at a price of 1091.36p to gross £607,855, while Pieroni grossed £91,161.

Last Friday, the company said it saw good customer demand in the first quarter and that it was actively exploring acquisition opportunities. Enquiries averaged 1,021 per month versus 1,016 in the same period a year ago, but lettings slipped to an average 88 per month compared to 93.

Hopkins said: "In a year in which we are launching a significant amount of new and upgraded space from our project activity, it is pleasing to see continued strong customer demand driven by our in-house marketing platform.

Rival IWG warned on profits last month with its UK business felt to be struggling due to greater competition from the likes of Workspace and US-owned WeWork.
