Tuesday preview: Ukraine-Russia conflict, global PMIs

Financial markets' focus will continue to be on the headlines coming out of Ukraine and any news regarding ceasefire talks between Kiev and Moscow.

Against that backdrop, the results of a raft of global factory sector Purchasing Managers' surveys are due out, including from China, the euro area, UK, and US.

Also in the spotlight, at 1300 GMT, European Central Bank boss, Christine Lagarde, is due to speak with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. She will be followed at 1530 GMT by Federal Reserve bank of Atlanta chief, Raphael Bostic, who will speak on the subject of business uncertainty at a briefing by the Atlanta Fed.

On home shores, at 0700 GMT, the Office for National Statistics will publish mortgage lending and consumer credit data covering the month of January.

Down Under, rate-setters in Sydney are due to meet to decide on monetary policy.

For Croda's second half, UBS analyst Charles Eden anticipates that the specialty chemicals manufacturer will post an 18.4% jump in organic sales, led by a 33% surge in sales from its Life Sciences unit.

Total sales meanwhile were pegged to come in at £914m for earnings before interest and tax of £232m on an EBIT margin of 25.4%. Earnings per share were seen printing at 118.2p.

In terms of the outlook, Eden said the investors that it had talked to were anticipating a "cautious" outlook from the company as regards its lipid nanoparticle sales over the medium-term. As of yet, Croda has not yet offered guidance for 2023 onwards.
