The focus in financial markets on Tuesday is likely to be on the pace of improvement, or not, in the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, both on the Continent and across the Pond in the States.

Investors will also be closely monitoring the ongoing negotiations among the world's largest oil producers ahead of the OPEC+ meeting tentatively scheduled for Thursday.

Hopes are that an agreement can be thrashed out for a coordinated reduction in output that will prop up prices and help steady the US shale oil sector and high-yield corporate debt markets.

The calendar is expected to be light in terms of economic releases, with none expected in the UK.

Across the Channel however, European Central Bank chief, Christine Lagarde, is expected to address euro are finance ministers at this week's Eurogroup meeting.

Further afield, China's central bank will release foreign exchange reserve data for March, while Down Under, rate-setters will meet to decide on policy.
