Thursday preview: Barrage of data expected in the US and Eurozone

The economic calendar is chock full of relevant economic data on both sides of the Atlantic.

In the US, investors will be monitoring readings on foreign trade, durable goods orders and pending home sales for August.

On the other side of the Pond, in the euro area, a reading on German consumer confidence for October and money supply figures for the Eurozone in August are among the key data to keep an eye on.

European Central Bank president Mario Draghi and chief economist Peter Praet were both scheduled to take to the podium as well.

No major economic releases were due to be published in the UK.

Tour operator TUI AG is among the companies that are slated to update markets.

UBS analyst Cristian Nedelcu was forecasting 10% growth in underlying profits on an EBITA basis and in constant currencies, with full-year EBITA seen at €1,160m.

Nedelcu expected the UK market to have seen pressure on pricing and margins on the back of the hot weather and competition, while in France, the challenges which had been previously identified by the company were expected to have continued with UBS saying they may hav worsened.

In Germany, he believed the exit of Air Berlin had likely boosted airline capacity and thus TUI's bookings.

For its part, CMC Markets is set to publish a trading statement which Numis expects will provide a general indication of trading.

Usually, this IMS had been relatively short, Numis analyst Marcus Barnard said, but this would be the first one since the ESMA intervention on CFD leverage came into effect in August.

Barnard said he was keen for indications about the rate of conversion of retail clients into professional ones and whether it had reached the 40% of revenues mark.

He was also expecting revenues from retail clients to have fallen heavily since the ESMA intervention came into effect.
