Markets' focus at the end of the week will be on the latest UK retail sales data, covering the month of May.

The median forecast from economists is for growth of 5.8% month-on-month following a 18.1% downdraft in the month before.

Also due out on home shores are the latest monthly public sector borrowing figures.

Across the Channel meanwhile, European Union leaders are scheduled to hold a teleconference to discuss the EU Commission's proposal for a €750bn reconstruction fund.

Stateside, the sole economic report will cover the country's first quarter current account deficit.

Further afield, rate-setters at Russia's central bank will announce their latest policy decision.
