Friday preview: Corporate news scarce; US personal income and spending data eyed

After a string of disappointing updates from the likes of Pearson, Imperial Brands and Pearson on Thursday, a dearth of corporate releases to end the week may be a welcome relief for investors.

There are no major UK data releases due but in the US, market participants will turn their attention to personal income and spending figures for August.

RBC Capital Markets said the personal income and spending reports are "largely baked in the cake as we have both the employment and retail sales reports in hand already".

Personal income should see a decent advance in August, as evidenced by the robust 0.8% gain in production worker aggregate wages on the month, it said.

"Meanwhile, spending should be a touch more modest as control retail sales decelerated a touch from the very heady pace recently. All in, this points to real consumer spending profile of about 3.5% for the quarter. The US economy continues to chug along despite the trade war."

There won't be much to write home about on the corporate front, with just veterinary services company CVS Group set to release its full-year results.

In a trading update in July, the company said it generated total revenue for the year to the end of June of £406.5m, up 24.2% on the year. On a like-for-like basis, the group said it achieved revenue growth of 5.2% during the year, with LFL revenue growth of 3.8% in its core practices division.
