Vodafone, one of the United Kingdom's biggest companies, will reconsider whether to maintain their global headquarters in London after the country's shock decision to leave the European Union last week.

The result of the referendum has left the company doubting whether they want to base their international HQ in Paddington in the capital, if it comes to pass that Britain will no longer have access to the single market.

Vodafone UK will not be affected, according to an official spokesman.

"It remains unclear at this point how many of those positive attributes will remain in place once the process of the UK's exit from the European Union has been completed," a spokesman said.

He continued that the situation would be monitored in the coming months and attempts made to protect the interests of the company with reagrds to its relationships on public policies in Brussels.

Vodafone is the seventh biggest company listed on the FTSE 100 index, with a stock market value of £55 billion. It said the UK's membership of the EU has been an important factor in its growth, allowing freedom of movement of people, capital and goods, as well as the single legal framework.

The majority of Vodafone's 462 million customer base is outside the UK, and it has a massive reach within the EU. The UK group of their business only makes up around 11% of its earnings.
