British and European Union officials are reportedly in talks for a possible delay of the Brexit divorce date, according to a report on Tuesday.

Citing three unidentified EU sources, the Telegraph said officials were concerned the deal agreed with the UK would not be approved by the British parliament by March 29.

As a result, UK government officials had been “putting out feelers and testing the waters” on an extension of Article 50, pushing back the date the country exits the EU.

A spokeswoman for Prime Minister Theresa May denied the report and said the UK would still be leaving the EU on March 29 and had no plans to extend Article 50.

There are growing concerns among officials that if the deal May arranged with the EU in November is voted down next week in parliament it could lead the UK into a no-deal Brexit, leading to economic chaos.

The PM is set to make a call on Tuesday whether to go ahead with a vote where pro-Europe MPs plan to make it harder to exit the bloc without a deal. The plan will limit the Treasury’s tax raising powers if there’s a no-deal split.

According to Bloomberg, May’s advisers will wait until they know if the proposal has been selected for a vote in Parliament on Tuesday before announcing if they will back it.
