Northern Ireland’s Democratic Unionist Party has secretly decided to support Theresa May’s Brexit “Plan B” next week if there is a clear time limit to the Irish backstop, according to a newspaper report.

The DUP, according to a report in the Sun, apparently fear pro-Remain Tory MPs will side with Labour to deliver a softer Brexit and they are also dealing with pressure to hold off growing Republican calls for a reunification referendum in the case of a no-deal Brexit.

The House of Commons is set to vote on Tuesday on the alternative Brexit plans after May’s original deal which she negotiated with the EU was scrapped.

A senior DUP source told The Sun: that if May loses next Tuesday's vote, Parliament will "take over" and so they had decided to vote with the government "if they agree the right amendment" like a shorter time limit to the backstop.

Other members of the Tory party told The Sun they have come up with a new Brexit plan to end the Conservatives’ internal tensions.
