Education consultancy and independent school operator Wey Education said it was on track to meet market expectations as it saw a strong organic growth of student numbers at schools.

In a trading update ahead of its maiden full year results ended 31 August, the company reported that student numbers on the last day of the summer term at InterHigh, the UK’s only online fee paying secondary school, increased by 52% to 647, compared to same period last year. The company said student registrations for the 2016/17 academic year are at the highest level ever.

The AIM-listed company said it hopes to expand further in the Asian market while it launched a second school. The new school is a premium brand operating on a semi-selective basis aimed at students seeking high academic results. The initial course offered is a 24-week A-Level retake course for students who wish to get better grades.

Wey Education had also recruited Richard Laithwaite, the former headmaster of Kirkham Grammar School, as the head of the new school.

Shares in Wey Education were up 2.07% to 3.70p at close.
