Big Data software company WANDisco has signed a contract for live deployment of its Non-Stop Hadoop database-linking technology with a top-10 US bank.

The client is a global US-based credit card and financial services company, which has signed a subscription contract at £250,000 per year but with the potential to increase, to use the AIM-listed company's database technology to for its customer transaction analysis.

WANDisco said the customer had been using Hadoop for over a year for analysis of the transactions across its 30m customers, and found WANDisco's Non-Stop software "proved to be the only solution to some mission-critical operating requirements" including eliminating data loss from outages.

Chief executive David Richards said: "The year so far has been marked by widespread production trial activity in the Hadoop market. We are now moving into a phase of production go-lives.

"Our Non-Stop Hadoop solution is essential for corporations to go live with Hadoop in mission-critical Big Data operations. We foresee a number of additional live implementations in the coming months."

Broker Investec said the contract win was notable in being a live production Hadoop deployment, where the customer realised WANdisco technology was essential.

"While there is widespread interest in Hadoop, there have been few production-class deployments in 2014 - until now. We expect a steady stream of contract newsflow from here as Cloudera/Hortonworks PoCs move into live production."

Analysts expected the initial deal value to scale "to multiples of this within three years based on data volume growth".

Sheffield-based WANDisco's licensed-out technology synchronises large amounts of data across remote data centres, which enables companies to search though huge amounts of data quickly and easily.
