Geospatial and spatial data specialist 1Spatial announced on Thursday that the US Federal Highways Administration had awarded it a “significant and strategically important” contract to provide its automated geospatial data validation software, together with spatial consultancy services.

The AIM-traded firm said the contract was for an initial one-year period, with an option for FHWA to extend the contract for a further four years.

It said the US FHWA collected highway information from the individual US State Departments of Transport, and fed that data into the National Data Inventory ,which was used to determine the extent, usage, condition and performance of the nation's highways.

The information is used for highway needs assessments, transportation performance measures, apportionment of highway funds and for numerous research applications.

It said its solution would enable FHWA to automate the existing - mostly manual - processes to ensure regulatory requirements and compliance are met, whilst benefiting the FHWA with improved efficiencies and cost savings.

The initial one year period, covering the initial license and installation, had a contract value of $0.34m.

Should the option to extend be exercised, the total contract value was up to $0.54m - including support and maintenance - with the remaining support and maintenance being spread equally over the following four option years.

1Spatial also announced that it won a contract with National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), a bureau of the US Department of Commerce, to provide commercial off-the-shelf enterprise software which integrates with Esri's ArcGIS, together with 1Spatial training, consultancy services and ongoing support and maintenance.

The initial contract value was $0.13m for software and services, plus ongoing $0.02m per year support and maintenance for four option years.

1Spatial said its solution would allow to NOAA to collate various charts and historic data from across the administration, to achieve a “true electronic” nautical contiguous single map, allowing “one version of the truth”.

“With the US market being a key growth target market for us we are delighted to add US Federal Highways and NOAA to our US customer base and very much look forward to working with both organisations on these exciting and beneficial projects,” said 1Spatial acting CEO Claire Milverton.

“These new wins along with the State of Nebraska and Arizona, earlier in the year, demonstrates that our US business is gaining momentum as 1Spatial builds its customer portfolio and brand and we deliver against our strategy.”
