Exploration and development outfit Transglobe Energy has named Geoffrey Probert as its next vice president and chief operating officer on Monday.

Probert, who has 30 years of operational experience with the likes of Shell, BHP Billiton and more recently Petroceltic, is a recognised expert in field appraisal, field development, field rehabilitation operations and exploration drilling as well as having extensive experience in international mergers and acquisitions.

Chief executive Randy Neely said: "We are very excited to have Geoff join the Transglobe leadership team."

"Geoff's depth of international experience, strong operational management skills combined with knowledge of the London markets and transaction experience make him the ideal candidate to round out the company's executive team in London."

Transglobe also said current vice president and COO Lloyd Herrick would be elevated to executive VP at the end of March.

As of 0920 GMT, Transglobe shares had picked up 3% to 154.50p.
