Telit Communications on Friday said it has conducted a successful series of tests on its new industrial-grade FN980m 5G data card in South Korea.

The AIM traded company said the successful network tests were on a tier 1 operator's live 5G network at sub-6 GHz frequencies, with a second set of trials conducted in millimetre wave spectrum using test equipment.

Following the completion of testing, commercial shipments to customers are expected to commence in the first quarter of 2020.

Telit said the data card creates new opportunities and opens new markets for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), system integrators and service providers working with high-performance, bandwidth-intensive applications such as enterprise office gateways, private networks and large-scale internet of things systems.

Chief executive Paolo Dal Pino said: "The successful testing of our new 5G product on a live 5G network in Korea will allow Telit to begin distribution to operators, integrators and end users worldwide in the coming months. Telit has increased its focus on high category LTE and 5G products, a key driver of its strategy to become a leading end-to-end IoT provider that enables enterprises to successfully execute their digital transformation."

Telit Communications shares wereup 1.77% at 172.40p at 1247 BST.
