Subsea cable protection systems provider Tekmar Group on Friday saw its patented cable protection system selected by Ørsted, formerly DONG Energy, for its offshore wind farm projects.

The AIM-traded company said that as well as the new agreement, which will see it provide the TekLink mechanical latch for the Borssele I&II farms, it has successfully won a place on Ørsted's six year framework.

This ensures that the company will provide cable protection systems for Ørsted's future projects.

Borssele I&II is a 752MW project that will begin construction off the coast of The Netherlands in 2020, and is one of the first offshore windfarm projects to start a trend of significant price reductions.

These price reductions are being driven by cross-industry collaboration, turbine and blade innovation, and a growing and competitive supply chain.

James Ritchie, chief executive of Tekmar, said: "We could not be more pleased that Ørsted has chosen Tekmar not only for the Borssele I&II project but also to be part of the framework going forward. This supports our vision to be our customers' partner of choice and will drive us to innovate to support in cost and risk reduction for this project and the next generation of offshore wind farms."

At 1241 BST, Tekmar’s shares were unchanged at 157.50p.
