Security and surveillance systems group Synectics has secured a new contract valued at more than £1m to provide surveillance systems for a major offshore oilfield development in the Middle East.

Synectics said on Tuesday that the project, for Saudi Aramco's $6bn development of the Berri offshore oilfield on Saudi Arabia's east coast, would be implemented with its long-term partner General Dynamics and delivered during the year ending 30 November.

The AIM-listed group will provide its COEX 3000 TriMode camera stations with thermal imaging technology.

Chief executive Paul Webb said: "This is an important contract win for Synectics in what continues to be a difficult market sector.

"We value the trust customers place in our people and technology. This has been especially important over the last few months when the expertise and dedication of our teams has been invaluable."

As of 1050 BST, Synectics shares were up 5.81% at 113.75p.
