Africa and Europe-focussed upstream gas company Sound Energy updated the market on the drilling of the Badile exploration well, onshore Italy, on Wednesday.

The AIM-traded firm said the Badile well had reached the primary Conchodon dolomitic reservoir target at 4,375m measured depth.

It said “significant gas shows” were encountered at 4,375m MD, and gas chromatograph data indicated C1 (methane) to C5 (pentane) gas components.

“Drilling in the 8.5" hole section has now been temporarily paused, ahead of running the 7" liner, after which drilling will continue to the bottom of the reservoir,” the board explained in its statement.

“The company cautions that gas shows, despite being a positive initial indication, should not be considered conclusive until drilling and logging is complete.”
