Gold and base-metal focused explorer Rockfire Resources has recommenced drilling at the Plateau Gold Deposit in Queensland, Australia.

Rockfire said reverse Circulation drilling was now in progress, with a planned program of 1,500 metres of drilling across 13 proposed drill holes.

The AIM-listed group's drilling program will aim to extend the near-surface gold resources at Plateau and was expected to take approximately 15 days to complete, with gold analyses to follow the completion of drilling.

Chief executive David Price said: "This current drill program is a very exciting one, as we are testing at depth to the east of hole BPL025, which was a very successful hole.

"Success with this follow-up drilling will demonstrate significant extension of this deep gold mineralisation in an east-west orientation."

As of 1450 GMT, Rockfire shares had surged 36.39% to 1.13p.
