Rockfire Resources on Wednesday began soil sampling, rock sampling, and geological mapping at the Copper Dome prospect in Central Queensland, Australia.

The AIM traded company holds an option over the prospect and the results of these tests are intended to assist the company in its decision whether to go ahead with the acquisition, which would give Rockfire a 100% stake in the prospect.

David Price, chief executive of Rockfire, said: "Now that the flood waters have receded in North Queensland, our exploration schedule for 2019 has commenced with multiple exploration teams mobilizing to site for soil sampling, rock sampling, geological mapping and photogrammetry, which are simultaneously underway at Copper Dome."

Rockfire said Copper Dome remains “vastly under-explored” and noted that mineralisation outcrops at the surface of the prospect would provide “lower anticipated exploration costs” due to potential for cheaper near-surface exploration.

"We have a busy schedule ahead for the coming months, including expansion of the Double Event soil sampling towards the west into the Kookaburra tenement, initiation of exploration at Native Bee (part of the Lighthouse tenement) and mineralization modeling for both Plateau and Double Event in preparation for maiden resource estimates," said Price.

Rockfire Resources' shares were up 3.03% at 0.85p at 1333 GMT.
