RedT Energy has been awarded a place on Essentia's battery storage framework to supply energy storage solutions to the NHS and other UK public sector sites.

Following a "competitive selection process", RedT was selected as a preferred supplier of energy storage solutions for the NHS and UK public sector projects, including central government estate, local authorities, schools and universities across Britain.

The AIM-listed group said the NHS was one of the UK's most "energy intensive organisations", spending in excess of £750m on energy per year and that through its framework the firm will work to deliver energy and cost savings while also delivering improved services and reducing carbon emissions.

RedT's chief executive, Scott McGregor, said: "To be chosen is an important validation of our technology and business models to unlock cheaper energy costs and reaffirms our position as a leader within the energy storage sector.

"We look forward to working closely with the NHS and other public sector companies to reduce their energy costs and accelerate their clean energy targets in the future"

As of 0850 BST, RedT shares had shot up 15.11% to 9.21p.
