Exploration and development company Ortac Resources intercepted further gold from two drill holes at its Akyanga gold deposit in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

At the MSDD0115 site, the stand-out drill-hole at Ortac's Casa gold project, the firm uncovered an 8.7m section containing gold at a rate of 3.9 grams per tonne (g/t), including a 2.8m section of 10.62 g/t, and a thicker section of 27.5m at 2.86 g/t.

The MSDD0114 hole returned uncovered gold at a grade of 1.31 g/t over a 2.9m area.

Coming as part of an infill and expansion project at Casa, the completed 2.2km long first phase marked the beginning of the 2.8km secondary drill programme.

Earlier in November Ortac uncovered a 24.75m intersection at a grade of 8.04g/t, which included a five-metre section at a grade of 22.63g/t, the highest ever grade and thickness at Akyanga.

Ortac chairman Nick von Schirnding said on Wednesday, "It is encouraging to see that the expansion and exploration drilling continues to intersect substantial thicknesses of mineralisation at grades of well over two grams per tonne of gold."

"The results of this drilling will continue to fill the gaps in the current resource model and improve our geological understanding of the Akyanga deposit," he added.
