Palm oil producer MP Evans tapped Matthew Coulson for chief executive on Friday, taking over responsibilities from executive chairman Peter Hadsley-Chaplin.

MP Evans said the appointment of Coulson, who joined the firm as chief financial officer in 2016, will take effect from 1 January 2022.

In the short term, Coulson will continue to monitor and supervise the AIM-listed firm's finance team, with efforts to recruit a new group CFO already underway.

Hadsley-Chaplin said: "I am delighted that Matthew is stepping up to become the group's chief executive. Over the last five years, he has made a significant contribution, both as finance director and latterly as a strategic leader across the group's operations.

"With the leadership team in place, the group is well positioned to deliver continuing growth and enhanced earnings, along with attractive returns for our shareholders."

As of 0935 GMT, MP Evans shares were down 0.70% at 873.80p.
