Motive Television's push into internet-based broadcasting made it to the consumer on Wednesday, with news the company's TabletTV Internet app had been accepted into the Apple App Store.

The AIM-traded developer of digital television technology said the new app was available immediately on all Apple App Stores globally, at a cost of £2.99 or $4.99 (£3.47), depending on a user's location.

Previous products from Motive Television required the use of a separate tuner, plugged in at the user's home to receive over-the-air terrestrial broadcasts before beaming them to the user's device.

However, the new app allows users to watch any streamed channel and content available in their own market without any additional antenna or equipment. It will work wherever there is an internet connection, the company said.

"Providing a mobile phone solution for television viewing is the latest step on Motive's roadmap to providing TV content where and when people want to watch", said Motive CEO Leonard Fertig.

"With about 750m iPhones having been sold globally to date, TabletTV Internet addresses a very large potential market and revenue source for the company", he added.

Channels available at launch in the UK included BBC iPlayer, Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, Demand 5, ITV Hub, All 4, Sky Go and YouTube.

The app was only launching on the iOS mobile platform initially, though the company did say it was working on a version for Android devices and would make a further announcement once that had been completed.
