Energy services and residential gas and electricity supply company Flowgroup announced the appointment of Alan Lovell to the board as non-executive chairman on Friday, effective as of Thursday.

The AIM-traded firm said Lovell would be replacing John Johnston, who had decided to step down from the board with immediate effect.

“I've enjoyed working with the Flow business immensely and I wish Alan, the board and the Company every success as they play an important part in the future of the energy industry,” said outgoing chairman John Johnston.

The Flowgroup board said Lovell has had an “extensive” executive career, with time as chief executive of six companies including Infinis, Jarvis and Costain Group.

He is experienced in helping businesses achieve their full potential, the board claimed, by increasing turnover, reducing costs and restructuring finances.

Lovell was more recently senior independent director at the AIM-listed construction services specialist Sweett Group, and also chairman of professional radio technology company Sepura.

He is currently chair of the Consumer Council for Water and the Association of Lloyd's Members.

“I and the rest of the Board would like to thank John for all his hard work for Flow over the years, especially drawing on John's experience to help with the successful fundraise completed this year,” said CEO Tony Stiff.

“John has been instrumental in ensuring Flowgroup has attracted the funding to continue its development, and in helping to develop a robust strategic vision for the company.

“Welcoming Alan to the business will, we believe, bring further experience in helping us achieve our goals as we enter a new phase of our development.”
