Great Western Mining announced a substantial discovery in the Walker Lane trend of Nevada on Thursday.

The AIM-traded company said it had identified a significant area of anomalous gold in soil samples at its M5 prospect within the Jack Springs (JS) claims group in Mineral County.

It said the discovery was marked by several findings, with the first being its span of over one kilometre, demonstrating an extensive gold trend with levels exceeding ten parts per billion.

Furthermore, within the extensive trend, Great Western had found several continuous zones featuring even higher-grade gold concentrations, surpassing 25 parts of gold per billion.

The prospect also exhibited a polymetallic nature, as indicated by the discovery of ten new grab samples.

One of the samples contained 5.14 grams of gold per tonne, 1,246 grams of silver per tonne and 0.32% copper.

Exceptional soil results were recorded, with some areas revealing gold levels exceeding 100 parts per billion, including values of 246, 145, and 130 parts of gold per billion.

Alongside gold, Great Western said it had detected anomalies in copper and silver concentrations within the soil samples.

Anomalous sample areas over windows in tertiary cover suggested a probable continuation of the mineralised zone beneath the surface cover.

“These new results over the M5 prospect on the Jack Springs claims have identified another strong target for exploration on the Great Western claims,” said chairman Brian Hall.

“We are seeing the benefits of intensive and continuous geological fieldwork over the spring, summer and autumn of this year and are very excited by the laboratory results at a number of prospects.

“The results of this field work, together with the indications of a possible copper porphyry at the Huntoon Copper Project, announced on 16 November and with the potential to dwarf the existing resource already established at the nearby M2 claims, underline our belief in the great potential of our 60 square kilometre of claims in the prolific Walker Lane Belt of Nevada.”

At 1057 GMT, Great Western Mining Corporation shares were down 5.26% at 0.05p.
