Goals Soccer Centres announced on Thursday that Mark Jones plans to resign from his role as chief executive to take another job in the private sector.

The company, which operates five-a-side football centres, said the search for a "strong" successor has already begun and it will provide an update when appropriate.

Jones will stay on in the role until a successor is found "in order to further progress the strategic turnaround of the company".

In September, Goals posted a 25.7% drop in pre-tax profit for the first half and said the overall turnaround to profitable growth was taking "slightly longer than anticipated".

At 1000 BST, the shares were up 0.8% to 91p.
