eSports provider Gfinity has partnered with BT to co-produce a new entertainment-based competitive gaming series - the BT Sport FIFA Challenge.

Gfinity said on Monday that the partnership would leverage a combination of its expertise in producing and operating gaming tournaments with BT Sport's remote production capabilities and presentation team.

The AIM-listed group highlighted that the competition used EA Sports' FIFA20 game and would feature the likes of Robbie Savage, Joe Cole, Ugo Monye and Chelcee Grimes.

To create the six-episode series, Gfinity and BT Sport will use BT's newly developed remote technology.

The pair also said they would look to create new esports and gaming-based content shows once the series airs.

Gfinity chief executive John Clarke said: "A key part of our strategy is to create new and compelling content and we are delighted to be working with BT Sport to bring a new gaming entertainment show to sports fans.

"Virtual gaming shows are capturing the imagination of fans across the globe as they enable them to connect with their sporting heroes like never before."

As of 0850 BST, Gfinity shares had shot up 24.14% to 1.80p.
