Technology group Cohort said on Thursday that its subsidiary, MASS Consultants, has been selected as preferred bidder for an eight-year contract worth more than £50m.

Under the proposed contract, which remains subject to final negotiation and Ministry of Defence approval, MASS will provide in-service support for the UK MoD, including operational analysis studies, IT infrastructure management, modelling and simulation and software engineering. This is a continuation of work undertaken by MASS since 2000.

The contract is expected to run from April 2019 until March 2027 with a break point in March 2023. It also includes four optional one-year extension periods that, if exercised, could extend the contract until 2031.

Chief executive Andy Thomis said: "I am delighted to announce this important result, achieved against stiff competition, which is a testament to both the quality of our bid and the excellence of our performance over the last eighteen years.

"To be selected as the preferred provider of this important national capability is a great vote of confidence in MASS and in the Cohort Group. Together with other recent wins, this contract, when confirmed, will enhance the visibility of future group revenue."

At 0925 BST, the shares were up 0.3% to 396p.
