Atlantic margins-focussed energy company Chariot Oil & Gas announced the appointment of Pierre Raillard as its country director in Morocco on Monday.

The AIM-traded firm said Raillard would bring more than 25 years of operational and management experience in the energy industry to the company, with specific expertise in the development of natural gas projects in Africa.

It said he had held senior positions within a number of energy firms, joining from Orca Energy Group, which he returned to as head of business development, having previously played a role in the development of the Songo Songo gas field, offshore Tanzania.

The board said that was analogous to its Anchois gas development project, offshore Morocco.

Raillard has also held leadership roles at African Petroleum Corporation, Perenco and OneLNG.

“On behalf of everyone at Chariot, I am very pleased to welcome Pierre Raillard as Morocco country director,” said acting chief executive officer Adonis Pouroulis.

“His considerable experience in driving forward, and helping to create value from natural gas projects across the African continent makes him extremely well qualified to help us advance the Lixus licence in Morocco.

“We are pleased to further strengthen the leadership team and look forward to his contribution at this exciting time for Chariot and all of our stakeholders.”

At 1258 BST, shares in Chariot Oil & Gas were up 13.96% at 4p.
