AIM-listed Breedon has appointed Mike Pearce, currently managing director of the aggregates division, as the new chief executive for its Southern division.

Pearce will take up the position in the new year, joining Breedon's executive committee and succeeding Tim Hall, who will be leaving the company at the end of September. In the interim, the Southern division will be led by Colin Parke, who currently runs Breedon Southern's Central region, reporting to group chief executive Pat Ward.

Ward said: "Mike brings vast experience of the construction materials sector to Breedon, having held senior management positions in every key area of the industry. Just as importantly, he shares our values and culture. We are delighted to have attracted him to Breedon and look forward to welcoming him to our leadership team."

In his current role, Pearce is responsible for nearly 50 quarries, collectively producing over 30 million tonnes of aggregates each year.

At 0950 BST, the shares were up 0.3% to 88.30p.
